自明代由江西工匠传入
至今已有600余年历史
是全国十大名陶之一
牙舟陶的演变
可以说是一幅西南山地农村生动的生活画卷
It was produced in Yazhou town, Pingtang,
and introduced by Jiangxi craftsmen during the Ming dynasty.
With a history of more than 600 years,
it is one of the top 10 ancient pottery styles in China.
The evolution of Yazhou Pottery
paints a vivid picture of life in rural Southwest China.

The production cycle of a piece of Yazhou pottery
is weather-dependent.
During the hottest time of the year (known as “sanfu”),
it can be as short as 5 days,
while in unfavorable weather conditions, it may take 8-10 days.
牙舟陶的纹饰在汉族文化的基础上
还吸收了贵州苗族、布依族、侗族 、彝族 、水族等兄弟民族的艺术纹样
结合陶器的器形、工艺 、釉色等特点
加以变化、夸张、取舍
运用捏塑、浮雕、线刻、印纹等多种技法施于器形
Rooted in Han culture,
the decorative patterns on Yazhou pottery incorporate artistic motifs
from other ethnic groups such as the Miao, Bouyei, Dong, Yi and Shui people.
These patterns are adapted, exaggerated and selectively applied,
taking into account the shape of the pottery,
craftsmanship and color of glaze.
Various techniques like clay sculpting, relief,
line engraving and stamping are used to adorn the pottery.
