贵州威宁草海是一个完整而典型的高原湿地生态系统，水域面积46.5平方公里。是中国著名的三大高原湖泊之一，中国一级重要湿地，世界十大观鸟基地之一。威宁草海曾被国家旅游局评为“全球最受欢迎的旅游目的地”。

Weining grass sea in Guizhou is a complete and typical plateau wetland ecosystem with a water area of 46.5 square kilometers. It is one of the three famous plateau lakes in China, an level-1 important wetland in China, and one of the top ten bird watching bases in the world. Weining grass sea was once selected as "the most popular tourist destination in the world" by National Geographic.

草海被誉为“中国黑颈鹤之乡”，是黑颈鹤群最重要的分布区之一，也是开展黑颈鹤等鸟类生物科学研究的重要场所。此外，它对湖泊生态系统的保护作用也不容忽视。

Weining grass sea has been recoginzed as the "hometown of black-necked cranes in China", which is one of the most important distribution areas of black-necked cranes, also indispensable to do biological scientific research into black-necked cranes and other birds. In addition, its protective effect to the lake ecosystem cannot be ignored.
